Hobbies
Take a Closer Look and Compare the Two Cultures
Now that you've seen some examples from both sides of the culture, lets compare them closer with some more direct questions. You've already seen comparisons in examples if you could find them on your own, but lets look closer.
In What ways are your examples from the 2 time periods similar? In what ways are they different? Do there seem to be reasons for these similarities and differences?
Many ways they are similar is because maybe a hobby was a family tradition, people kept that interest, or they just felt like keeping some of the 1940s culture. To look more closely, some of the specific hobbies that have stayed the same are photography, making clothes (sewing, crochet, knitting, etc), and communicating, though in different ways. Some of these are different because of evolving of technology and the changes of human interests. Some of the different examples are ways of communicating, DJ-ing, types of art, ways of writing, and new technology to make hobbies. Two main reasons lie behind this change, the human interest always changing, and technology always evolving.
What are any different forms of your examples from each time period?
Even with those ideas that stayed the same, they were different forms because, like I've said before technology effects change. Some of the same ideas in culture were there, they only got "better" because of the technology we had today. Just think, I'm using technology now, when I might've had to just write it out all by hand years ago. It's amazing to see how technology has changed.
How do your comparisons of these examples from both time periods relate to the ideas of change?
I've said before (sports page) that the five generalizations of change are "change is linked to time", "change is everywhere", "change can be positive or negative", "change can happen naturally or be caused by people," and "change can be orderly or random."
The generalizations in change that fit with this category is change is linked to time, change is everywhere, change can be positive or negative, change can be caused by people, and change is orderly.
Change is linked to time
This fits because as time evolves, so do people, as people evolve, ideas form, and so technology is formed. As time goes on, technology is evolved and changed. Even from today , to say 1340 and on, technology will always change peoples' interests and the way we do things.
Change is everywhere
This fits under this specific category, change is everywhere fits because, no matter what category you talk about, technology will somehow be involved, and hobbies are everywhere. Also, things are invented to create new hobbies.
Change can be positive or negative
Both positive and negative fit into this category because this evolved hobbies to create them faster, more efficient, and easier, which is a positive thing, but with our life going quick, here and there, getting done quick and going somewhere, you don't enjoy as much as you would use to when things aren't "on the go all the time."
Change is caused by people
For hobbies to be created, people had to be around. For hobbies to change, people's interests have to change, so every hobby, every change in hobbies are all caused by people.
Change can be orderly or random
Most of the changes done to the hobbies are done orderly. Technology is more orderly when evolved and changing things, but most of the times, people's interests changing are random. So, honestly, this category is a mix.

In what ways do your examples of popular culture in both time periods reflect national and/or world events?
In World War II, this effected some change in the hobbies because, with for instance the wood building, and the wood shortage because of the war, it was hard to do that hobby. Today, a lot of hobbies just reflect national events because of people's interests developing things as a whole.
